Why Walmart.ca add-to-cart fails during Pokémon restocks
If you have ever watched a Walmart.ca restock go from live to sold out while the cart button did nothing, you are not doing it wrong.

Walmart.ca is the most complained-about restock experience in Canadian collecting, and the complaints are consistent: the item shows in stock, add-to-cart either spins or errors, and by the time anything works it's gone. Some people get to checkout and get a network error there instead.
What's actually happening
During a hot restock, the listing page and the cart service come under very different load. The page can say "in stock" while the cart endpoint is rate-limiting or queueing. The stock number is also shared inventory — you can be holding a page for something that's already spoken for.
What Canadian collectors actually do
- The favourites trick. Add the item to your favourites list along with a cheap everyday item, then use "add all to cart" from favourites. It's a different path than the single add-to-cart button and people report it working when the button doesn't. Remove the filler item after.
- Keep it in your cart from last time. Items left in the cart from a previous sell-out sometimes convert to purchasable via "move to cart" faster than a fresh add.
- Retry, don't restart. Spamming the button occasionally works; reloading the page usually loses your place.
- Wait for the next wave. This is the important one. Walmart trickles stock — losing a checkout race isn't the end of the drop.
Is it bots?
Partly, but the cart failures happen to bots too. What you're mostly fighting is a checkout path that wasn't built for a few thousand people wanting the same $60 box in the same minute.
