How to actually get Pokémon cards at retail price in Canada
Retail-priced stock exists in Canada. It just does not last, and most people are looking in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Last updated Aug 4, 6:35 p.m. ET · figures from 140 recorded Canadian restocks
We've recorded 140 Canadian restocks since 2026-07-20. Across the 32 we timed, the median product sold out in 165 minutes and 13% were gone inside 15. The fastest was 6 minutes. That's the whole problem in three numbers — not scarcity exactly, but speed.
1. Stop refreshing the search page
Retailer search and category pages are cached, often by several minutes. The product page itself updates first. If you're waiting on a specific item, sit on its product URL, not a search result for it.
2. Restocks come in waves
This is the single most useful thing in our data and almost nobody acts on it. Retailers trickle inventory rather than dumping it. We've repeatedly recorded the same product returning three and four times in one afternoon, roughly half an hour apart. If you miss one and walk away, you're leaving before the next wave.
3. Have the account ready before you need it
Logged in, address saved, payment saved. The Canadian sell-out window is frequently under 15 minutes and a good share of that gets spent on a checkout form. This sounds obvious and it's still where most people lose.
4. Local game stores are underrated
Everyone camps Walmart and Best Buy. Canadian LGS — 401 Games, Face to Face, Hobbiesville, Wizards Tower and others — get allocation regularly, price closer to sensible, and take far less bot pressure. Our data shows them restocking steadily while big-box swings between famine and 20-minute frenzy.
5. Know what it should cost
A lot of "in stock" listings are third-party sellers at two to four times MSRP. Knowing the real number is what stops you from panic-buying a $65 Elite Trainer Box at $220. We keep a Canadian MSRP reference built from recorded prices.
6. The honest one: alerts do most of the work
You cannot manually watch 18 retailers. Nobody can. Whether you use ours or someone else's, some form of automated notification is the difference between reacting in two minutes and finding out tomorrow. That's why we built DropScouts, and it's also just true.
